I would buy one today if I had somewhere to reliably and conveniently charge it.

I live in an apartment complex without charging infrastructure. Don’t want to drive to nearby charging station and wait/coordinate rides to and from. My place of work doesn’t have enough charging infrastructure to support demand.

Not sure why, but I found this gave me a lot of anxiety.

I think maybe the focus and fine motor control needed to keep the ball within the lines…

null_shift | 2 years ago | on: Ask HN: Do you work nights/weekends?

When I was younger I routinely worked late nights (I’d work normal business hours, then go grab a subway and come back to the office and work until 10-12. I enjoy working alone at night, and I wasn’t using that free time productively, so I figured why not. It did help my career trajectory significantly.

As I’ve gotten older and have better uses for my time I find myself working a ~40hr week and checking out. Occasionally if I have a challenging problem that requires deep focus I’ll log on at night, but only because I like the satisfaction of “the grind” every now and then.

null_shift | 2 years ago | on: Ask HN: Happy people, what does a day, week and year in your life look like?

I agree. I am currently stuck in a rut where everything seems meaningless, and I can’t find the motivation to do much of anything.

I desperately yearn for a meaning/purpose to serve as a source of internal motivation…

Up until now, the only thing that has been a “motivation” for me is a fear of failure, so that’s what I rely on to get anything done.

Anyone that actually cares about the privacy of their data isn’t going to be satisfied with just a “promise”.

Some of the anecdotes seem completely fabricated to provide a convenient example (i.e. the guy’s wife was very observantly watching him play a round of golf with a colleague and caught him cheating?)

New Haven CT has the best pizza in the US (and arguably the world)

null_shift | 3 years ago | on: Federal authorities investigating Neuralink for treatment of test animals

I really don’t understand why we as a society have found it acceptable to experiment like this on other sentient beings for our own advancement.

Why are these animal lives worth less than ours? Just because we are more “advanced”?

Killing animals for food is at least in line with the natural order (leaving aside factory farming). Running experiments like this is far beyond natural, and to me is quite bizarre and unethical.

null_shift | 3 years ago | on: Stable Diffusion: Is Video Coming Soon?

True video capability would entail describing a scene as a prompt and getting a video in return. Not interpolating between a handful of images as is being done now (not to discredit those).

This will be a huge game changer when it occurs. Whether it be for deep fake videos, creating custom content, or making a new season of your favorite tv show that was cancelled too early. The possibilities are endless.

This is probably not in the near future (i.e. this year), but I doubt it is very far off.

My therapist mentioned the same thing to me recently so I suppose it is worth investigating further.

I had never considered it before that, probably due to lack of understanding of what ADD/ADHD is (when I was growing up the stereotype was high energy kids bouncing off the walls and unable to sit still and focus in class, whereas I was low energy, introverted, and had always done well in school and work so it was never a thought).
