on: Heirs of Infocom: Where interactive fiction authors and games stand today
I thought all the AAA publishers switched to interactive films after they gave up on making video games.

on: AMD Unleashes First-Ever 5 GHz Processor
I've been waiting since my Athlon64 died for AMD to make a chip worth getting. Them taking the brute force (P4) approach is not all that encouraging.

Another astronomically expensive Mac Pro. This time hermetically sealed and unupgradable. Lovely.

on: When a Startup Sends a Passive-Aggressive Email Every Day
As far as I'm concerned, a single unsolicited message from anyone with no personal connection to myself constitutes spam. Obviously opt-in lists are a different story.
Anecdotally, most people aren't going to go through the couple or three clicks to unsubscribe. This is what spammers rely on.

They did not have a modicum of skill. I'm neutral on their endeavours, however LOIC and SQL injection is skiddy stuff.

Reminds me of a friend who took the hole saw to the inner guards on his STi to make getting to the plugs easier.

I'd guess it is. Diseases are still organisms, and we try pretty hard not to let them go extinct.

on: Surface Pro versus MacBook Air: Who's being dishonest with storage space?
The people hosing their system like that aren't likely to be able to use a recovery partition. I would guess they'd take the computer to a shop to get it fixed.

Don't worry, 9/10 reviews are still available for the bargain price of one pre-release copy of the game.

I tried this for like six months. Couldn't stand it. I get far better results adjusting environmental lighting. An LED strip casting a glow behind my monitor made the most difference.

Real men don't fight straw men. You're the one disregarding a well thought out, informative post as 'smug heteronormative privilege'.

I suppose anything that doesn't conform to your world-view is 'smug heteronormative privilege'. If you want a big happy feel-good discussion I suggest you go back to Tumblr. HN is for constructive discussion.

I find it very hard to believe that anyone, let alone the presumably technologically proficient people at Canonical, would actually think that sponsored search results are useful. When was the last time anyone clicked a sponsored Google result?

on: Kim Dotcom Gets Green Light to Sue New Zealand Spies
The head of the GCSE at the time is now our Governor General. So the guy directly at fault is untouchable and the Prime Minister flatly denied (lying) all knowledge of any spying.
We're not so squeaky clean.
